Spatial insights for

environmental action

Lunoryn Environmental GIS combines spatial analysis, remote sensing and environmental modelling to help organisations, researchers and decision-makers understand environmental patterns, assess impacts and plan for a more sustainable future.

AREAS OF FOCUS

Each project is shaped around a clear environmental question, with the data, methods and outputs selected to provide useful, defensible evidence for decision-making.

BIODIVERSITY

Spatial and quantitative analysis of species, habitats and ecological networks. Habitat mapping, species-distribution and suitability modelling, connectivity and fragmentation analysis, biodiversity indicators and spatial prioritisation can support survey design, ecological assessment, conservation planning and long-term monitoring.

MARINE ENVIRONMENT

Spatial analysis of marine and coastal systems, from habitats and species to human pressures and environmental change. Seabed and coastal habitat mapping, species-distribution modelling, pressure and sensitivity analysis, change detection and marine spatial planning can support conservation, restoration and the sustainable management of seas and coastlines.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Wind Turbines Landscape

Spatial decision support for renewable energy planning. Multi-criteria suitability modelling can combine environmental sensitivity, protected areas, landscape factors, infrastructure and technical constraints to identify potential locations, compare scenarios and make trade-offs visible during the early stages of project development.

WATER AND POLLUTION

Catchment-based analysis of water systems, pollution sources and environmental pressures. Water-quality mapping, hydrological and proximity analysis, pollution-risk modelling, hotspot detection and change monitoring can help trace spatial patterns, identify priority areas and support investigation, mitigation and restoration.

THE PROCESS

A collaborative and transparent approach

1. DEFINE

Project objectives, intended users, available data and the wider decision context are clarified to establish the most appropriate approach.

2. PREPARE AND ANALYSE

Relevant spatial and environmental data are sourced, prepared and analysed using appropriate GIS, remote-sensing and quantitative methods.

3. INTERPRET

Results are interpreted and translated into clear maps, models, metrics and spatial evidence.

4. REVIEW

Findings are reviewed together to test assumptions, refine their interpretation and ensure their accuracy and relevance.

5. DELIVER

Final outputs are supplied with clear documentation and guidance to support their effective use.

TOOLS AND METHODS

Projects may combine GIS, remote sensing, quantitative ecology, statistical analysis, spatial modelling and multi-criteria decision analysis. QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine, R and Python are used as appropriate, with workflows documented to support transparent and reproducible results.

WHERE LUNORYN WORKS

Projects can be local, regional or international.

Remote collaboration and cloud-based GIS make it possible to support work across the UK and internationally.

Environmental GIS for better decisions across land and sea.

LET'S WORK TOGETHER

Have a project in mind? Let’s discuss how spatial analysis could support it.
